The different sides of Newcastle, Co. Down

Given the weather forecast predicting hot temperatures in Northern Ireland, we headed to the coast and the seaside town of Newscastle this morning. Although the clouds kept the weather overcast, it was hot and humid, and my red arms tonight suggest that the sun got through the mist to warm up my skin.

Newscastle was buzzig today. There was a Pipe band competition in the fields behind the Donard Park car park. The sea front has been tarted up since last I was there. Children and adults were enjoying the amusements. Slieve Donard and the Mournes still dominated the landscape.

A colourful day.

I was down in Newcastle a couple of weeks ago.Travelling from Greyabbey we always take the ferry over from Portaferry to Strangford.I asked the guy selling the tickets on the ferry "is this the boat with the hole in it?"
"Yes" he replied "If the pump stops, we'll sink"
Something to look forward to on my next journey over there.
And I'd noticed a double of Sven Gon Erikson directing the cars on to the ferry, I had to look twice. You'll know what detour to take on your next visit Alan :-)

The big silver ball is a sculpture in the middle of Newcastle's promenade. There's a triangular needle pointing skywards but sliced down the middle at the far end too.

Makes a good photo ...

Well, it seems Newcastle has changed a lot since I used to live there in 97-98. It looks more modern now with that silver ball. There used to be an old anchor, I don't know if it is still there.
