For anyone who doesn't fancy reading through all the reviews, my top three by some distance are:
The Welsh Girl by Peter Ho Davies
Mister Pip by Lloyd Jones
Animal's People by Indra Sinha
Please don't be put off by the subject matter or prejudices (as I was). They're all three terrifically enjoyable and richly rewarding reads!
