While there has been no word of Lisburn preparing a bid to be City of Culture, it's not a complete cultural desert.
Lisnagarvey Youth Society will be staging Rodgers and Hammerstein's musical Oklahoma! in the Island Arts Centre at 7.30pm between Thursday 3 and Saturday 5 September.
Head on down and hum along to Oh, What a Beautiful Mornin', Pore Jud is Daid and Oooooooooooooklahoma in - as the venue's website describes it - "a boisterous, rip roaring jamboree of a show".
Then there's more youth theatre next week when the local Fusion Theatre company perform Titanic the Musical between Wednesday 9 and Saturday 12 September (all shows 7.30pm except Friday at 8pm).
Directed by Ian Milford and based around the real passengers and crew, the blurb promises that the show has tragedy, humour and pathos ... it's sure to be a swell show.

I once saw Oklahoma at the Grand Opera House. It was really fun trying to figure out where each actor got their accent from. John Wayne and Scarlett O'Hara were definitely present. There was a lot of "lidle laaydee" and "i do declare, sir!" that I'm pretty sure weren't in the original script.
