Malachi O'Doherty was appointed at the tail end of 2010 as the latest BBC Writer in Residence at Queen's University Belfast. With a journalistic background and online interests as well as being an author, Malachi has been subtly reshaping the role to expand from books to other forms of wordsmithing.
Every two or three weeks, he hosts the Blog Standard group – a kind of Bloggers Anonymous – where bloggers talk about their motivation and demo their tools and techniques. Newbies and old hands equally welcome.
On Friday 11 February at 1-2pm, in the first in a series of free lunchtime events Malachi will be interviewing Jim Fitzpatrick in the QUB Council Chamber in the Lanyon Building. Free places need to be booked online or by phoning 0370 901 1227.
“... Jim Fitzpatrick shares his thoughts and experiences on journalism and local politics. A successful print and broadcast journalist, Jim has presented The Politics Show on BBC Northern Ireland television since 2003 and also anchors Stormont Today. As well as frequent interviews with leading figures in Northern Ireland politics, he has interviewed a range of international guests including John Major, George Mitchell, David Cameron and Bill Clinton.”

Alan, fair play on today's discussion, always interesting to drill down a bit into the how and why of whole blogging/social networks/new media thing.
Really enjoyed today's panel at the Student's Union. Thanks for taking part.
Not sure I knew where the discussion was meant to be going ... and whether it achieved the vision of enthusing a pile of students to boldly write and investigate to make The Gown the student paper to beat!
We could have done without the drunken chap!
