Belfast's Apple Store ...

Potential Belfast Apple Store shop front in Victoria Square

While the Victoria Square centre opened last week in a flurry of confetti, you'll have to wait a little longer for all the units to open, including the much anticipated Apple Store.

(They were recruiting a month or so ago.)

But if you're particularly keen and geeky, here's a picture of the double height unit on the Upper Ground floor that they'll be squeezing a glass staircase and a non-alcoholic Guinness Genius Bar into by this summer.

hit on this post from apple.com

Update - 5pm - I know I'm easily amused, but Apple were pretty quick off the mark reading this non-news-worthy post. Good to see they're eating their own dog food using Safari to browse on one of their humongous monitors.

Update - midnight - OK, so the novelty has passed. A big hello to everyone at Apple who's decided to pay a visit. Maybe someone could add a comment to let us know (roughly) when the Belfast store is due to open!

March 13 - And there's more! In an email, Victoria Square say they can’t actually yet confirm which unit the Apple Store will occupy “when it opens in September, but it is likely to be on the Upper Ground Floor”. Will update the post if they ever decide!!! The unit to the left is also another alternative.

Update - 22 April - Victoria Square confirm that Apple Store is coming ot unit UG5.

Update - opens Saturday 20 September at 9am

Update - review of the opening.

Hooray! Hopefully this means I can now deal with Apple directly when something goes arwy, and not have to be messed about by the only 'authorised' Apple service centre in Mallusk...

Interestingly, I think what you have pictured is part of UG01 - the large Topshop unit at the William Street South entrance. The last article I saw on the Apple Store showed it as UG05. However, if you go to the Victoria Square website and use the interactive map, it's showing UG05 as GEOX footwear... :-(

Still - plenty of units unassigned as yet! It'd be nice to know where we'll be sleeping rough on opening eve! ^_^

Heh, presumably Apple have Google alerts set up let them know every time anyone blogs about them, just as Christopher Priest did on my blog last year to give me a ticking off when I misrepresented his views.

In defence of NI's only authorised Apple Service centre, MacSys in Mallusk, I've only had to use them once and found them efficient and helpful, ie they diagnosed what was wrong and fixed it first time.

Will it look any less sparse and white when it is open?

Given recent design trends, it'll be sparse and aluminium now, I imagine :-)

I can see the opening of this store in September having a mega effect on attendances at the art college come first semester! :P

john self: I'm glad you had a positive experience with MacSys in Mallusk. In my experience they have been pompous and deceitful. "We're just looking at your Powerbook today." "Oh, we didn't have time that day, we'll do it today.""We've ordered the part last week, its on the way." "The part is out of stock, it's not on the way, and we didn't bother telling you" etc etc. Straight to Apple from now on.
